Seven Mile Beach
When you are over 65 and traveling independently, finding the right spot comes down to a few very specific things. You want a quiet nature base, relaxing water views, and a place that feels safe and uncrowded. Practicalities matter, too: you want to be reasonably close to a hospital, but without having to stay right in the heart of Hobart. Yesterday, a local friend took me to Seven Mile Beach, and it hit that exact balance for me.
From the parking area, we walked through native bush forest. It was only a short walk of a few minutes before beautiful, calm blue water and a sandy beach appeared right in front of us. There were just a few people there, keeping the whole place feeling peaceful and open.
While taking in the view, I spotted an airplane landing far off in the direction of Hobart Airport. It didn't disturb the quiet at all. Instead, it gave me a subtle sense of security—knowing that if I stay in accommodation nearby and ever need to leave suddenly, I have that option, on top of being within easy reach of medical care.
We spent the rest of the afternoon walking, enjoying the sunshine and the calm water, and picking up unusual shells along the sand. I found one particularly unique shell, and I am going to make a pendant from it to remember the day.
